Tybring-Gjedde expelled from Progress Party for disrespecting democratic processes and party decisions

Tybring-Gjedde has been expelled from the Progress Party (Frp), citing his lack of respect for democratic processes and party decisions. This comes a day after he publicly criticized the party’s leadership, claiming that a party that is not democratic within is unfit to defend democracy in Parliament. He has shown no interest in appealing the decision.

Tybring-Gjedde had desired a Progress Party led from the bottom up, rather than through directives from the top. His expulsion followed his statements during the nomination process in Oslo Frp, which the Organizational Committee deemed incompatible with party membership.

In late June, Tybring-Gjedde controversially claimed that the nomination committee’s recommendations were a commissioned work and party-political corruption. The Oslo nomination listed Tor Mikkel Wara and Simen Velle at the top.

Anni Skogman, the leader of the Organizational Committee, stated that Tybring-Gjedde repeatedly disregarded democratic processes and party decisions, even after a formal warning in 2021. This lack of trust led to the decision that he is unfit to represent the Progress Party.

The allegations of political corruption were the last straw leading to his expulsion. After a comprehensive evaluation, the party decided that enough was enough, according to Skogman.

Tybring-Gjedde received a warning from the party in 2021 when he offered a young woman wearing a hijab a thousand kroner to remove it.

Tybring-Gjedde will serve as an independent representative in Parliament for the remainder of the legislative period leading up to the 2025 election. He has a 14-day window to appeal his expulsion.
