Crayfish season concludes today in Finland as assessments remain pending

The crayfish season concludes today across Finland, having begun on July 21. Following a warm early summer, expectations were high for a successful crayfish season. However, the Central Union of Finnish Fishery has stated that assessments of the season’s success have yet to be made.

According to estimates from the Central Union of Finnish Fishery, there are about 100,000 crayfish fishermen in Finland. The country’s inland waters are home to both native river crayfish and the North American signal crayfish. The annual catch for signal crayfish is approximately 3 to 4 million, while the river crayfish catch ranges from 1 to 2 million.
