During the parliamentary deliberation regarding increasing the loan capacity of the Housing Loan Fund, it was not just the former Minister of Environment, Ingilín D. Strøm, who stated that there was no risk to the long-term viability of the housing authority, Bústøðum.

The entire governing coalition agreed that the report from the national auditor did not confirm any issues with Bústøðum’s long-term sustainability.

In January, the auditors requested the latest figures from Bústøðum between the first and second readings of the bill, which were particularly relevant for the subsequent readings of the legislation. The question arose whether to wait for the report or proceed without it.

Erling Eidesgaard voted alongside Liljan Weihe and the opposition to send the case back to committee during the third reading.

The report from January confirmed, with projections over the next ten years, that with certain changes, Bústøðum can be sustainable in the long term. This includes selling off assets, streamlining the organization, and increasing rents.
