On Thursday afternoon, a passenger train derailed between Trondheim and Bodø at Finneidfjord. As a result, the E6 highway near Bjerka in Hemnes was closed, forcing drivers to take a detour through Sweden, which could take several hours. This major traffic disruption is causing challenges for both land and air travel.

Flight delays have been reported, as Widerøe airline is unable to refuel in Mo i Rana due to supply issues. Consequently, the airline has had to make unscheduled stops in Brønnøysund, Sandnessjøen, or Mosjøen to refuel. These complications have resulted in significant delays, causing some passengers to miss connecting flights. Widerøe also had to cancel a flight to Røssvoll following a major delay related to a fuel stop.

In addition to aviation challenges, supply issues have affected retail outlets. Simon Kjønnås Thorsen from Coop Norge noted that the first 24 hours were hectic, with notable delays impacting deliveries to various stores. Although alternative routes have been established, the situation remains sensitive, particularly for perishable items like refrigerated goods and produce.

Nortura, a meat processing company, issued a layoff notice to its 70 employees at the Bjerka slaughterhouse due to extended commutes. However, the company has since found solutions to accommodate seasonal workers and transport staff across the closed road by boat.

Post and package deliveries in Nordland and Troms have also been delayed due to the closure of roads and railways, with expected delays of one to two days. Transportation services are facing challenges but have been able to maintain operations with some adjustments, including obtaining a dispensation for driving and rest regulations.
