Finland is experiencing a data center boom as municipalities seek to attract such facilities to boost tax revenues and create jobs. Companies like Google and Microsoft have already invested heavily in the country.

Fincap DC Corp, established just a year ago, has acquired several plots across Finland, with plans to build a data center in Lahti that could generate up to 1,000 jobs. The company purchased a 10-hectare industrial site in Lahti from the city-owned Spatium for approximately €6 million, although the sale has not yet been formally recorded.

Fincap has informed the city that it plans to construct a data center with a capacity of 100 megawatts on the site. During the construction phase, hundreds of jobs are expected to be created, with an eventual total of 100 to 150 direct jobs, and nearly 1,000 indirect positions once the center is operational. Local officials are enthusiastic about the prospect of new employment opportunities.

While Fincap DC Corp is planning similar data center projects in other Finnish towns, the specific operators for these centers have not yet been announced. The company’s financial situation is challenging, but it operates independently from the Fincap group, which is facing its own difficulties, including reported losses and ongoing inquiries into its financial practices.

In the broader context of the Finnish data center market, the competition is growing as various projects are underway, although securing a stable energy supply remains critical for success. The Finnish Data Center Association acknowledges that simply acquiring land does not guarantee a successful data center, as numerous factors must be considered in the long-term planning process.
