Two trams collided in Tampere on Tuesday evening, one of which was on a training run, according to police. The Police Department of Southern Finland has not yet confirmed whether the collision was caused by a technical fault or human error. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Hämeenkatu and Hatanpään highway when a tram traveling from the railway station towards the city center turned towards Hatanpää after the Koskipuisto stop. During the turn, it collided with an oncoming tram.

At the time of the collision, there were approximately 50 passengers on board the trams, but fortunately, no one was injured. The trams were moving at walking speed when the accident happened.

Following the incident, several tram services in Tampere have been canceled on Thursday due to a shortage of vehicles. This disruption primarily affected the number one tram line operating between Kaupin Campus and Santalahti. The trams are currently undergoing repairs as a result of the collision on Tuesday evening.

Traffic was blocked at the accident site for several hours on Tuesday night.
