Three women not seeking re-election in Tvøroyri municipal elections
Following the municipal elections in 2020, women gained a majority in the city council of Tvøroyrar. However, in this year’s municipal elections, three out of the four women elected then will not be running for re-election.
The three women not seeking re-election are Kristina Roest, Súsanna Bertholdsen, and Jónleyg Jespersen Bech. Kristina Roest and Súsanna Bertholdsen were both first elected in 2016, while Jónleyg Jespersen Bech was newly elected during the last term.
Súsanna Bertholdsen took a seat in the national parliament, Løgting, in 2022, and went on leave from the municipal council, with Eyð Eidesgaard filling her position. Eidesgaard is also running again this time.
The other members of the city council are all seeking re-election this year. They include Kristin Michelsen, Anita Vibergsdóttir, Alvi Mortensen, and Bjarni Hammer.
Like the previous election, three lists are competing in this year’s municipal elections in Tvøroyri.
In the last election four years ago, the list led by Kristina Michelsen, known as the Felagslistin, received 51.6% of the votes, translating to four council seats. The Social Democratic Party obtained 37.5% of the votes and secured three council seats, while the third list, Listi V, received 11% of the votes but did not gain representation in the city council.
