Opposition parties prepare no confidence motion against Ingilín Didriksen Strøm in Faroe Islands parliament
Opposition parties are set to present a motion for a vote of no confidence against Ingilín Didriksen Strøm, the Minister of Health, during today’s parliamentary session.
Bárður á Steig Nielsen, chairman of the Union Party, confirmed that the leaders of the opposition parties will introduce the motion.
The parliamentary session will commence at 11 AM, with the first item on the agenda being the third reading of a proposal regarding party subsidies. This will be followed by oral inquiries and discussions, including a question from Bárður á Lakjuni concerning screen time, smartphones, and social media.
When the vote of no confidence is tabled, other agenda items must take a backseat, and the no-confidence motion will be addressed first.
The majority in the government affairs committee changed its stance on Tuesday, expressing a desire to appoint an investigator to examine the minister’s conduct.
However, the opposition parties are not in agreement with this approach. They have requested that the Prime Minister dismiss Ingilín Didriksen Strøm from her position ahead of the parliamentary session today, given that the no-confidence motion will otherwise be brought forward.
The opposition does not hold a majority in the parliament, raising the crucial question of whether all coalition members will stand united in support of Ingilín D. Strøm, thus preventing a vote in favor of a no-confidence motion.
