Gunnar Þórðarson laid to rest in Reykjavík

Gunnar Þórðarson, one of Iceland’s most beloved musicians, was laid to rest on Thursday, mbl.is reported. He died on 29 July.

The funeral took place at Hallgrímskirkja church, where the service was led by Reverend Hjörtur Magni Jóhannsson.

Þórðarson composed numerous songs that are expected to remain part of Icelandic culture for years to come. He rose to fame with the band Hljómar and also played with Trúbrot and The Lónlí Blú Bojs, for which he was the principal songwriter.

The pallbearers were Sigurjón Sighvatsson, Jónas R. Jónsson, Egill Eðvarðsson, Óttar Felix Hauksson, Karl B. Herman Gunnarsson, Zakarías Herman Gunnarsson, Jakob Frímann Magnússon and Unnar Helgi Daníelsson.
