Instead of fleeing, photographer Bilal Hussein positioned himself behind a nearby tree close to one of the residential buildings in a densely populated area. When Israel launched an attack about 40 minutes after issuing an evacuation order, he was perfectly situated and ready with his camera to document the destruction. “I heard the sound of the rocket whistling, walked toward the building, and began taking photos,” Hussein recounted.

His footage from the attack in Beirut captures the speed, power, and devastation characteristic of modern warfare. A notable image shows a rocket soaring through the air, while another captures it just before striking the building’s balcony. Fortunately, there are no reports of casualties or injuries from the incident.

Hussein has covered several conflicts since joining the Associated Press 20 years ago, allowing him to be accustomed to such high-stress situations and the sounds of explosions. The Israeli military has not provided specific reasons for targeting this building, only stating that it housed “interests and facilities” linked to Hezbollah.

The ongoing escalation between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon continues to raise concerns as military actions unfold.
