Álfhildur Leifsdóttir designated leading candidate for Left-Green Movement in Northwestern constituency

Álfhildur Leifsdóttir has been designated as the leading candidate for the Left-Green Movement (Vinstri-græn) in the Northwestern constituency for the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024. Leifsdóttir has served on the Skagafjörður municipal council for the past six years and is the chair of the Northern West Iceland Teachers’ Association. Educated as a systems engineer, she currently works as an elementary school teacher.

Following her on the party list is Bjarki Hjörleifsson, an assistant to the Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries. Hjörleifsson, who has worked for the Left-Green Movement for the last five years, holds a degree in political science and hails from Stykkishólmur.

The third candidate on the list is Sigríður Gísladóttir, who resides in Ísafjörður. Gísladóttir is an educator at the Ísafjörður Community School and is trained as a veterinarian, high school teacher, and agricultural expert. She has also served as the chair of the Left-Green regional association in the Westfjords for nearly a decade.

This candidate lineup reflects the party’s ongoing commitment to local representation and its focus on education and community issues. The upcoming elections are expected to be a critical opportunity for the Left-Green Movement to strengthen its voice in the Icelandic parliament.
