Sune Jacobsen, a local council member and former mayor of Sørvágur Municipality, has announced that he will not run for re-election. He expressed significant discontent regarding the council majority’s decision to allocate funds to investigate the costs of building a sports hall. Jacobsen argues that the municipality simply cannot afford a new sports facility.
Instead of pursuing a new sports hall, Jacobsen advocates for expanding the existing school gymnasium, enabling Sørvágar Idrottfelag (SÍ) to host its home matches there in the future.
Eyð Ellingsgaard, the current mayor of Sørvágur, stated four years ago, when she was first elected, that one of her primary goals was to develop a sports hall and that planning for such a facility would occur after the election term. However, the municipality has yet to make any progress in this area.
The local council does not support the proposal to expand the gymnasium used for volleyball.
