Five individuals were arrested yesterday during a customs inspection for attempting to launder 1.3 million Danish kroner (approximately USD 195,000) and possessing around 18 kilograms of hashish and 700 grams of MDMA. The arrests took place as the men were traveling from the Faroe Islands to Denmark aboard the ferry Norrøna on Thursday evening, according to prosecutor Katrin Thorsvig.

Customs officials discovered the money hidden in the men’s vehicle, leading to their detention. They will be held in custody for four weeks while investigations continue.

As the case unfolds, authorities are focusing on the potential connections between this incident and wider drug trafficking networks in the region. The seizure of such large quantities of narcotics indicates a significant operation, prompting concerns about rising drug-related crime.

The authorities have stated that they will be vigilant in monitoring such activities and enhancing their border controls to prevent drug trafficking. Additional measures are expected to be announced as the investigation progresses.

Further updates on this case and related drug enforcement efforts in the Scandinavian region are anticipated in the coming weeks.
