Luxury cabin demand remains high in northern Finland despite consumer budget cuts
Demand for luxury cabins in northern Finland remains strong, even as many ordinary consumers tighten their vacation budgets. During peak travel seasons such as Christmas, New Year, and Easter, expensive and well-equipped cabins are particularly sought after. Entrepreneurs in the tourism sector report that customers are willing to pay the prices set by hosts during these high-demand periods.
In Levi, the weekly rental prices for the most luxurious cabins range from €10,000 to €30,000. Usually, these rental prices include skiing passes, access to spa facilities with hot tubs, and tailored concierge services. Satu Pesonen, CEO of Visit Levi, notes that luxury travelers appreciate round-the-clock services and expect value for their money. Specifically, there is a growing demand for villas with en-suite bathrooms in bedrooms and glass-roof accommodations for viewing the Northern Lights.
In the Inari-Saariselkä area, rental prices for luxury cabins can reach €1,000 per day, equating to around €7,000 for a week. The most upscale cabins in Tahko are priced at a maximum of €5,000 per week. Marko Säkkinen, Service Director of Lomarenka, mentions that high-quality, spacious holiday apartments can cost over €6,000 weekly during peak seasons, emphasizing that there is always a market for these accommodations.
Apart from domestic tourists, luxury rentals also attract foreign visitors, with Antero Ylävaara from Inari-Saariselkä Center Rental Agency estimating that around 95% of renters for luxury cabins are international guests, who typically stay for two to three days. Additionally, a new project in Hossa National Park will bring million-euro luxury cabins aimed at Central European tourists, with construction of boutique cabins starting this fall. Investor Elina Kurikka states that these luxury cabins will meet the modern accommodation demands in national parks, enhancing the holiday experience.
