October temperatures remain unusually warm in Finland with sunny weather expected
October continues to remain unusually warm in Finland. By the end of the week, sunny weather will be more prominent in the southern and central parts of the country.
Meteorologist Elias Paakkanen from Yle reports that northern regions will experience cloudier conditions, though there will be variations from day to day, with some parts of the south also seeing cloud cover. Rainfall will be minimal, with only a light drizzle possible in the north.
Temperatures are significantly higher than usual for this time of year, particularly in southern and central Finland, where they are exceeding ten degrees Celsius, reaching up to 14 degrees. Typically, average temperatures in October hover around eight degrees. Meanwhile, northern areas feel cooler due to increased cloudiness and fog; however, temperatures there are still above five degrees, while Lapland typically only averages a few degrees at this time. Southern Lapland may even see temperatures rise to ten degrees this weekend.
The warmth can be attributed to a high-pressure area located southeast of Finland. Since this system is specifically situated to the southeast rather than directly south, it allows warm air to flow in from the south and southwest, Paakkanen explains.
