Concerns grow over drug smuggling at Stuðlar treatment facility in Iceland

Regrettably, there are ongoing challenges with drug smuggling into Stuðlar, a treatment facility for children aged twelve to eighteen in Iceland. Instances of narcotics being discovered on the premises are becoming increasingly frequent, prompting concerns about the facility’s ability to prevent these incidents.

Alma Ómarsdóttir, a representative from the treatment center, highlighted the complex nature of the facility’s operations. The center houses children with diverse issues, creating a situation that poses serious risks to both the young residents and the staff. “There are ways to bring drugs in here, and they know it. However, we are quite sensitive to detecting if they are using substances and respond accordingly,” stated Úlfur Einarsson, the director of Stuðlar.

The center’s efforts to combat drug use among minors are central to its operations. This evening, a program called Kveikur will delve deeper into the challenges faced by Stuðlar, making it one of the most recognized treatment options for adolescents in the country.
