Cat lost for 70 days returns home to Tromsø after being taken to Malangen
In August, NRK reported on Hermine, a cat that was mistakenly given to the wrong family after a stay at a cat hotel in Tromsø. After more than 70 days of being lost, Hermine has finally returned home.
Her caregiver, Hanne Leandersen, shared on Facebook that Hermine is thin and weakened but alive, stating, “She is walking around with her neck held high.” When Leandersen arrived to pick up Hermine at the beginning of August, she received the shocking news that her cat was no longer at the hotel.
The indoor cat had already been taken by individuals who believed that she was theirs. They transported Hermine to a cabin area in Malangen, Balsfjord municipality, far from her safe home in Tromsø, and set her free. It took seven weeks for Hermine to be located again.
A couple in Malangen managed to capture her using a camera and a trap, reporting to a local newspaper that they noticed Hermine returning to the trap more frequently in the last few days. “Today we activated the trap, and that’s when we got her,” they explained.
According to Leandersen, Hermine, who was adopted from an animal protection agency, is somewhat anxious after her ordeal. She has lost half her body weight and is currently receiving gradual nourishment at the veterinarian’s office. Additionally, Hermine needs to have some fur removed and stitches for several wounds and scratches. As she is too weak to be sedated for treatment today, she is scheduled to return to the vet tomorrow. Leandersen hopes to restore Hermine’s indoor life at home soon.
