Staff at the Ísafjörður Music School have voted to announce a strike scheduled for October 29. This action is part of a larger strike wave affecting nine educational institutions, which includes four preschools, three primary schools, one secondary school, and the Ísafjörður Music School, if an agreement is not reached before the strike date. All members of the Teachers’ Union and administrators at music schools in Ísafjörður who participated in the voting supported the strike announcement. Voter turnout was over 83 percent. The strike will continue until December 20 unless an agreement is reached in the meantime. The National Mediator has called a meeting for the negotiating teams from the Icelandic Teachers’ Association and local and national government representatives on Tuesday.
