The Vaasa and Central Ostrobothnia Cooperative Banks are considering a merger. The boards of both banks have initiated a feasibility study regarding the implementation of the fusion. A decision on the merger is expected to be made early next year. If the merger goes ahead, the new bank is anticipated to begin operations approximately a year later, around the transition between 2025 and 2026.
Staff from both banks would transition to the new institution. According to representatives from the banks, the aim of the merger is to create a robust local bank that serves customers across a broad region. The two banks are of similar size. The banks announced their plans during a joint press conference today.
