On Wednesday at 6 PM, rescue workers will hold a five-minute silent demonstration in various locations across Finland and around the world. This event honors Mikko Saastamoinen, a rescuer who tragically died in a bicycle accident earlier this month. Saastamoinen lost his life when he was struck by a drunken driver in a car in Kangasniemi.
Saastamoinen was employed by the South Karelia Emergency Services and worked with the volunteer fire department in the area. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the development of road safety and traffic rescue operations, according to the emergency services.
The demonstration aims to draw attention to traffic safety and the need for its improvement.
