Storm damages car for second time in Tampere as Ronny Grek faces falling trees again
Ronny Grek from Tampere has experienced an extraordinary run of bad luck with autumn storms. Exactly one year ago, a storm knocked a tree onto his car. Now, history has repeated itself. “It’s hard to believe it’s happening again, especially since it was the same neighbor who called both times,” Grek exclaimed.
Last year, his vehicle was saved from significant damage by a carpet rack and a Molok waste bin that partially shielded it from the falling tree. This time, however, the damage is expected to be severe. “The windshield is shattered, the driver’s side mirror and rear light are broken, and the hood and trunk are crumpled. Both shock absorbers on the driver’s side are gone,” Grek listed the damages.
Recently, Grek had moved his car’s parking spot because falling pine cones had caused minor dents to the hood. A recent photo reveals that his risk assessment didn’t quite hit the mark. The fallen tree was on city property, and discussions about its removal had previously taken place during cleanup efforts from last year’s storm.
Cropping up just as autumn arrived, a severe storm hit Finland on Wednesday, bringing gusty southeast winds and causing the rescue services to work hard in the Pirkanmaa region. Roads in places like Nokia and Orivesi were temporarily closed due to storm damage, and in Urjala, a tree fell against a building. Now, Grek anxiously awaits the upcoming winds in the Tesoma neighborhood. While the odds of a tree falling on the same car twice are low, it seems not impossible. “Let’s hope it doesn’t happen a third time,” he concluded.
