Two women detained in Kajaani as suspects in homicide case
Two foreign women have been put forward for detention by the police during a court hearing in Kajaani today, Thursday, as suspects in a homicide. One of the women was arrested in the morning, while the legal proceedings for the other are still ongoing.
The police are still seeking individuals from Kajaani, as their accounts regarding the suspected homicide that occurred between Monday and Tuesday night are considered crucial, according to Chief Inspector Kimmo Tuulenkari of the Oulu police department.
At this stage, the police are withholding specific details about the incident, noting that they have yet to reach the victim’s close relatives. According to the police, the suspects are not Finnish citizens and efforts to locate them are being coordinated through the National Bureau of Investigation. The victim is also a foreign national.
During the court session, interpretations for the suspects were provided in Ukrainian, but the police have refrained from commenting on their nationality. A sharp object was seized from the crime scene post-incident, and while authorities confirm that a weapon was used, the exact cause of the victim’s death will only be determined following a forensic examination, Tuulenkari stated.
Initially, an emergency service unit responded to the scene and subsequently called in the police. According to the police, both women have been in Finland for nearly a year, as is the victim, all of whom are middle-aged.
