Proposed regulations to shorten deckhand training for Faroese commercial vessels

New regulations are being proposed regarding the training of deckhands for Faroese commercial vessels.

The recommendations from the working group that reviewed the maritime training program are set to be implemented.

A key conclusion from the recommendations is that there is a significant demand for trained deckhands for Faroese commercial ships.

It has proven difficult to fill these positions with locals.

Currently, the maritime training program lasts for one year, which is considered too long.

As a result, the plan is to restructure the program to allow individuals to qualify as deckhands after just six months of training.

The regulation concerning the training of ship crews was established in 2021.
