Recent research brings promising news for overweight individuals: exercise enhances the quality of fat tissue, contributing positively to overall health, according to CNN.

In a study conducted by the University of Michigan, led by Professor Jeffrey Horowitz, it was found that overweight individuals who engaged in regular physical activity exhibited improved characteristics in their fat cells that increase the ability to store fat effectively. “The better our fat tissue can store fat, the less fat ends up in the liver, heart, and other areas where it can cause health issues,” Horowitz explained.

The importance of consistency in physical activity was highlighted in the study, which compared subcutaneous fat in two groups of 16 overweight participants. The first group reported exercising at least four times a week for at least two years, while the second group consisted of individuals who did not engage in regular physical activity.

Published in the journal Nature Metabolism, the findings reveal significant differences in fat cells between the two groups: those who exercised regularly showed altered protein composition, increased blood vessels, and reduced inflammation.

Professor Horowitz hopes these insights will broaden the understanding of the benefits of exercise. He noted that exercise not only promotes positive changes in overweight individuals, even if their weight on the scale doesn’t necessarily decrease, but also enhances their work capacity and overall functionality.
