Klaksvíkar Municipality, in collaboration with Norðoya Welfare and Home Care Service and the Child Protection Service in Norðoyggjar, has issued a notification regarding a data breach.
They have regained control of all the information taken by hackers; however, they cannot confidently assert that the hackers haven’t made copies of the information. The compromised data includes names, addresses, personal identification numbers, bank account numbers, union affiliations, and other personal information related to case processing.
The breach may also involve records from pediatric dentists in Klaksvík Municipality, Fugloy Municipality, Hvannasund Municipality, Kunoy Municipality, and Viðareiði Municipality.
Those who have stolen the information may attempt to use personal identification numbers for identity theft or fraud, and could also try to trick individuals into disclosing their information or providing funds.
Residents are advised to be cautious of unexpected emails, SMS messages, or phone calls requesting personal details, login information, or money. The guidelines include: “Do not click on suspicious links and do not share personal information with strangers,” and, “Change weak passwords to strong ones.”
The Municipal Payment Office provides information on this issue, emphasizing that efforts are underway to secure all data for the future.
