Iceland elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for three-year term

Iceland has been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council. The vote took place during a meeting of the General Assembly in the afternoon. Iceland was among the countries from Western Europe that were up for election, alongside Spain and Switzerland. Iceland will take its seat on the council at the beginning of the new year and will serve a three-year term. Foreign Minister Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir stated in news on October 6 that Iceland could contribute positively to the council.
