Serious traffic accident in Nurmes, North Karelia claims one life

A serious traffic accident occurred in Nurmes, North Karelia, on Wednesday morning. Emergency services received a report of the incident on Karhunpääntie before 10 AM. According to the report, a vehicle had gone over the embankment and ended up on its roof in a ravine. Rescue services informed the police that one person in the car had died.

Preliminary investigations by police revealed that the vehicle was being driven from Valtimo towards Nurmes on Karhunpääntie. The car lost control in a sharp right turn, based on the marks left at the scene, subsequently crashing into the guardrail and a thick birch tree located on the shoulder of the road.

A 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The police are continuing their investigation into the accident.
