An increasing number of Faroese individuals are using Wegovy or Ozempic to manage excessive weight, according to local health officials. Amalia Danielsen, a municipal doctor, emphasizes that medication alone is not sufficient for effective weight loss. Proper diet and regular exercise are also essential for achieving desired results.

As of late April to early May this year, 2.8% of the population in the Faroe Islands aged 18 and older were reported to be using either Ozempic or Wegovy, as indicated in a report from the National Health Authority.

Earlier this summer, a separate report from the Health Directorate revealed that 66% of the Faroese are classified as overweight. Based on these statistics, the Faroe Islands rank fourth among countries with the highest rates of obesity. This highlights a significant public health concern that local authorities are looking to address through integrated dietary, exercise, and medical strategies.
