Fisheries Association warns against new tax on aquaculture industry in Sweden
The Fisheries Association continues to argue that the broad agreement on a payment fee and additional tax on the aquaculture industry among the governing parties and the Union Party is not a step in the right direction; rather, it is the opposite.
The association expressed this view in a consultation document regarding the proposal for an additional eight percent tax on fish farms.
The government proposes that fish farming companies pay this extra tax on the portion of taxable income derived from their operations, covering everything from smolt production to seafood harvesting and sales.
The Fisheries Association contends that this tax will significantly increase the tax burden on the aquaculture sector.
According to the association, a system based on profit would provide greater security and encourage investments and innovations within the industry.
