King Frederik and Queen Mary host state visit from Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir in Denmark

For the first time, King Frederik and Queen Mary are hosting a state visit as the royal couple. Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir and her husband Björn Skúlason are visiting Denmark today and tomorrow, returning home on Thursday.

This evening, the Danish royal couple hosted a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace, where King Frederik delivered his inaugural address as Denmark’s highest representative during a state visit.

“2024 marks a year of renewal for you and us. Tonight is no exception. You are on your first state visit as a presidential couple, and we are hosting our first state visit as a royal couple,” the king noted at the beginning of his speech. He emphasized the strong connections that have bonded their countries and populations for generations.

In his address, King Frederik also highlighted the shared ambitions of Denmark and Iceland in the context of green transition. “While Denmark is known for our wind turbines, Iceland has much to offer in CO2 capture and Power-to-X innovation. Together, we are among the world’s leaders in developing geothermal solutions,” he stated.
