Nineteen-year-old Tuomas Salminen, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a young girl from Valkeakoski, has received several threatening and hostile messages while incarcerated at Kylmäkoski Prison. This information was first reported by MTV Uutiset and has been confirmed by Eemeli Soros, Salminen’s attorney, who noted that the messages have come from both inside and outside the prison.

The attorney mentioned that there are multiple messages, which he believes are traditional letters. However, he stated he lacks details about their content, quantity, or the identities of the senders. Katja Kirilov, the unit head of Kylmäkoski Prison, did not confirm the situation, emphasizing that such matters are confidential and she cannot comment on the individuals or the nature of the correspondence received.

Reports indicate that the prison has taken steps to ensure Salminen’s safety by isolating him. According to Soros, the inmate has not seen all the messages sent to him and has been relatively calm in response to the threats. Soros had previously prepared Salminen for the possibility of such reactions after his sentencing.

Soros himself has also faced online harassment related to the case, acknowledging the risks involved in representing someone in such serious allegations. On October 3, the Pirkanmaa District Court sentenced Salminen, born on March 3, 2005, for the murder of the 15-year-old girl, aggravated sexual assault of a minor, and possession of sexualized images of a child. Due to the severity of the crimes, Yle Uutiset has disclosed his name. Salminen remains in custody as his sentence has not yet become final, and his defense attorney announced plans to appeal to a higher court.
