The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) has initiated employee negotiations for production and economic reasons. This cost-cutting objective forms part of a broader government productivity program. The estimated number of potential layoffs is up to 30 employees.

As part of its budget funding, the institute faces a permanent budget cut of approximately 6.1 million euros by the year 2027. Furthermore, about 4.4 million euros of this reduction needs to be realized by next year. Currently, the FMI employs around 760 staff members.
