World premiere of unknown Mozart work held at Harpa concert hall in Reykjavik
A significant gathering of classical music enthusiasts took place at the Harpa concert hall today, where the world premiere of an unknown work by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was held. The piece, titled “Ganz kleine Nachtmusik,” or “Very Little Night Music,” was discovered in a state library in Leipzig, Germany, last September and was first performed in that city shortly thereafter.
The atmosphere in Harpa’s Norðurljós hall was vibrant as musicians, including violinists Ari Þór Vilhjálmsson and Sólveig Vaka Eyþórsdóttir, along with cellist Sigurgeir Agnarsson, took the stage for this historic performance. Ari expressed his deep honor in having the opportunity to debut a piece from such a renowned composer in Iceland. This event not only celebrated the rich legacy of Mozart but also allowed Iceland to participate in a meaningful historical moment in classical music. The performance marks a unique addition to the classical repertoire and offers audiences a rare experience of Mozart’s artistic brilliance.
