Former doctor indicted for alleged sexual abuse of 95 women in Norway
A former municipal doctor has been indicted for allegedly abusing his position to obtain sexual relations with 95 women, of whom 88 are reported to have been raped. A recent investigation revealed that two of the women were under 16 years old at the time of the alleged assaults. However, the defendant has not been charged with any sexual offenses against minors.
The range of ages among the victims varies significantly, with the oldest being 67 and the youngest at 14 and 15; both are now over 18. The prosecution has not included charges for every potential violation due to the extensive nature of the case.
The prosecutor indicated that the severity of the offenses and the age of the victims could influence sentencing outcomes if the defendant is found guilty. Generally, sexually abusing minors under 16 falls under a specific legal provision that carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison. Despite this, the defendant has not been charged under this clause.
The trial against the former doctor will commence on November 5 in the Trøndelag District Court, with a timeframe of 16 weeks allocated for the proceedings.
In a recent development, the defendant has admitted guilt in several instances, acknowledging raping three women and exploiting his professional position in 40 of the total 95 allegations. The defense attorney stated that the defendant recognized his culpability in cases where the victims were legally unable to resist the actions taken against them.
