Children’s educational choices linked to parents’ backgrounds in Finland
Children often end up pursuing the same fields of education and careers as their parents, according to Statistics Finland. The connection between family background and educational choices has strengthened over time. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) indicates that high school students frequently come from families where parents are high earners, highly educated, and hold professional positions. Furthermore, THL notes that family background also impacts the likelihood of students continuing to university.
The publication is inviting individuals to share their experiences regarding the influence of their parents’ educational background or profession on their field of study. Did you choose a field that is entirely different from your parents’? The publication is collecting these experiences and is looking for potential interviewees. Interested individuals can respond through an online form or directly email the journalist at [email protected].
Responses will be used solely for this article, and the publication assures that personal contact information will not be shared with third parties. Participants are asked to provide their names, although publication will only occur with consent. Additionally, the publication requests the age and city of residence of respondents. Finally, those willing to discuss their experiences in further detail during an interview should indicate their availability.
