Chairman Súni Selfoss seeks tripartite council meeting on 37-hour workweek in Iceland

Súni Selfoss, the chairman of the Starvsfelagið trade union, is seeking meeting invitations for a tripartite council that is expected to make recommendations on reducing the workweek to 37 hours.

In the spring of last year, Ingilín Didriksen Strøm, the Minister of Labor Affairs, established a tripartite council comprising representatives from employers, employees, and the political system to discuss the matter and how to implement a shorter workweek.

However, Selfoss notes that there has been little activity from this council recently. Despite this, Minister Strøm responded to MP Beinir Johannesen, stating that the government plans to present a proposal for a 37-hour workweek to the parliament later this autumn.

The chairman remains optimistic about the reduction of the workweek, believing it will occur during the current government term.
