A unique friendship blossomed at the Miðhúsum farm in Biskupstungur a few summers ago, when a family of campers settled in the area and began receiving daily meals from the farm residents. However, this bond did not originate from food offerings but rather from an act of care. The local family provided nursing assistance to a camper named Baldur, who was recovering from a leg injury. After his recovery, Baldur continued to visit for meals and even tapped on the kitchen window to remind them of his presence.

Baldur eventually found a mate and raised a chick, attempting to teach his family to trust humans, though they generally stayed cautious. Baldur’s luck turned as he adapted well to his new environment. The local housekeeper, Unnur Malín, noted that he eagerly accepted food offered directly from hand.

The tension mounted the following spring as there was uncertainty whether Baldur would return, which he ultimately did. The family was protective of his nest, given the presence of wolves interested in the eggs. Now, Unnur Malín believes a new generation from Baldur is emerging in the field, marking a continuation of friendship between these two worlds.
