An accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Pyhä-Luosto National Park, where a gas stove exploded inside a day lodge, according to a statement from Metsähallitus. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The explosion happened while hikers were cooking using the gas-powered stove in the Karhunjuomalampi day lodge. A connector hose on the burner unexpectedly caught fire, and the hikers were unable to extinguish the flames. They evacuated the lodge, and shortly after, the gas cylinder exploded inside. The blast blew off the lodge’s door and lifted the roof into the air.

As a result of the incident, the day lodge has been closed until further notice. Metsähallitus announced that maintenance will take place this week to assess the damage more thoroughly. The use of camping stoves is permitted in Metsähallitus’ lodges.
