Jonsson expresses relief over Ombudsman’s criticism of Batra in Stockholm

Susann Sass Jonsson expressed relief following the Ombudsman’s criticism of Anna Kinberg Batra. The union had raised similar concerns about the governor during the spring. “Now we have support for our criticisms,” Jonsson stated. Though not many staff members have been consulted yet, those she has spoken with indicated that the criticism was anticipated.

Anna Kinberg Batra, the former leader of the Moderate Party, took office as the governor of Stockholm last year, and there have been discussions regarding a crisis of confidence within the agency. Currently, an internal trust survey is being conducted, and Jonsson wants to await its results before commenting further on the staff’s confidence in Batra. However, critiques have been present since last year. “We started to gradually question some of the decisions made by the governor. Now we know the criticism was justified,” Jonsson remarked.

Ultimately, it is the government that will decide whether they maintain their trust in Batra. Civil Minister Erik Slottner previously noted that the governor must heed the criticism, although the government still expresses confidence in her.

Jonsson emphasized the importance of public trust for the agency’s staff. “When there is a leadership figure whose trust has been shaken, it impacts everyone else involved. It’s vital that we, as an agency, enjoy high public confidence,” she explained.

As for Batra, she announced this afternoon that she will remain in her position. “Her statement that she is staying was expected. Whether she can rebuild trust remains to be seen,” Jonsson concluded.
