Smyril Line may struggle to maintain its scheduled services if a national theater is constructed on the eastern pier in Tórshavn. Niels Juel Arge, the director of Strandferðslan, raised concerns about this issue in discussions with local politicians.
The proposal includes building a national theater on the eastern pier. However, despite several protests, the Tórshavn City Council has approved a lease agreement for the area.
Arge expressed uncertainty over whether it will be possible to continue as many daily trips between Tórshavn and Suðuroy as are currently operated. The potential changes to the pier’s use could impact maritime transport schedules, which are crucial for the connection between the islands.
As discussions progress, the implications for both tourism and local transport are being closely monitored as the project develops.
