Snowfall warning issued for regions in Norway as significant accumulation expected
The Meteorological Institute has issued a warning for significant snowfall expected in various regions of Norway. From Friday morning, between 5 to 20 centimeters of snow is anticipated at elevations of 600 to 800 meters, with potentially more in higher mountain areas, primarily in western parts of the country.
This warning affects the regions of Trøndelag, Møre og Romsdal, and parts of Vestland. Mountains such as Trollheimen, Dovrefjell, Strynefjellet, Sognafjellet, and Vikafjell are expected to receive notable snowfall.
Travelers are advised to exercise caution due to possible challenging driving conditions. The Meteorological Institute recommends allowing extra time for travel, using appropriate tires, and driving according to road conditions. Authorities are continuously assessing the necessity for emergency readiness.
Delays are possible for some journeys, as local driving conditions may worsen.
Meteorologist Susana Reuder noted that there is still some uncertainty regarding which areas will receive the most snowfall, particularly at higher elevations. Additional snowfall may occur over the weekend, potentially prompting an extended warning. The current alert is in effect until Saturday morning, with further assessments planned for the following day to determine if an updated warning will be necessary.
