Severe rainfall causes minor flooding in Helsinki, Finland

Severe and rapid rain showers were observed in southern Finland on Wednesday evening. According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the Kaisaniemi observation station in Helsinki recorded 1.7 millimeters of rainfall between 5 and 6 PM, followed by an additional 1.2 millimeters from 7 to 8 PM. The rains resulted in minor flooding in certain areas. Notably, the intersection of Kullervonkatu and Käpyläntie in Helsinki was submerged by water late in the evening. Following the downpour, the Helsinki Fire Department received a request for assistance after 9 PM. Video footage from the scene shows firefighters working to clear drains amidst the floodwaters.
