Winds to strengthen dangerously across southern and western Finland today
Winds are expected to strengthen dangerously in parts of Finland today, particularly affecting the southern and western regions. In the west, gusts may reach speeds of up to 20 meters per second. The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued widespread warnings for strong winds across the southern and western parts of the country, including maritime areas. The strongest gusts are anticipated on Wednesday, during the morning and afternoon hours.
Meteorologist Anssi Vähämäki warns that the winds are powerful enough to cause damage. As the week progresses, the wind warnings will shift to the North Ostrobothnia, Kainuu, and Southern Lapland regions. This trend of windy weather is expected to continue throughout the week across the nation.
In terms of temperatures, Finland is experiencing a notable split. The southern parts are witnessing unusually warm conditions, with temperatures hovering around 15 degrees Celsius. In the eastern regions, temperatures could soar as high as 20 degrees Celsius, leading Vähämäki to describe it as feeling summery.
Conversely, in Lapland, where the first snowfall occurred yesterday, temperatures vary between 0 and 12 degrees Celsius. Warnings have also been issued for poor driving conditions in the region. Additionally, much of the country is experiencing volatile weather, with the heaviest rainfall set to hit Northern Finland, where a broad area of rain is expected to move in during the day.
