Influencers reshape fashion landscape as Laufey Ingibjörg Lúðvíksdóttir highlights individuality in Copenhagen
Influencers are increasingly taking center stage in the fashion industry, as designer Laufey Ingibjörg Lúðvíksdóttir notes. Currently working for the brand Malene Birger and previously with 66°Norður and Icewear, she remarks on the trend of influencers borrowing outfits for photoshoots and returning them shortly after. This practice, according to her, reflects a shift in consumer culture, where it becomes common to have a variety of outfits available for daily use.
Laufey emphasizes the importance of maintaining a unique sense of personal style amidst the overwhelming influence of social media. She points out that the proliferation of trends and the tendency for influencers to mirror each other’s styles lead to a homogenization of fashion. “It’s incredibly challenging to maintain individuality today,” she states, referring to how exposure to online trends can create a desire to conform rather than express personal taste.
Having studied fashion design at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and fashion marketing at Parsons, Laufey values high-quality, natural materials in her designs. She believes the essence of her work lies in exploring diverse materials and ensuring that garments are both structured and comfortable.
Currently residing in Copenhagen with her husband and three children, Laufey advocates for the importance of individuality in style, urging consumers to celebrate their personal expressions rather than conform to widely adopted trends.
