Mental Health: “Everyone Must Focus on Their Mental Well-being”

The need for everyone in society to pay attention to their mental health is emphasized by a spokesperson for a mental health organization. The “Mental Health Train,” traveling across the country, offers conversations about mental wellness intertwined with music and joy.

Grímur Atlason states that it is essential for all individuals, regardless of their location, to consider their mental health. The purpose of this tour is to engage with local councils and social and educational authorities, followed by public meetings.

Despite municipalities grappling with financially demanding projects and the burden of funding schools, Atlason believes they can still set an example. He points out that addressing mental health can be integrated into discussions without incurring significant costs.

“It costs nothing to include topics on the agenda. This is a vital issue for us, and some municipalities are already making mental health a priority in schools,” he explains. He encourages local governments to utilize various resources available to them.

He adds that this journey has made him reflect on the plethora of challenging issues that the community has faced in recent weeks and months, emphasizing that all members of society, including those in local government and law enforcement, also need to prioritize their mental health.

Atlason expressed concern over the low priority given to welfare and mental health among politicians, noting that during discussions about the upcoming legislative season, pressing matters such as immigration and banking dominated the conversation, while mental health remained overlooked.
