Beech tree demolished with dynamite in Jægersborg Dyrehave due to safety concerns

The desired scenario is for nature to take its course, allowing sick trees to die naturally. However, the 150-year-old beech tree in Jægersborg Dyrehave was demolished with dynamite today due to safety concerns. The tree was unhealthy, with a rotten trunk, posing a risk to visitors in the park should it fall on its own. As a result, the Nature Agency opted to remove the top using explosives.

The event attracted many children from local preschools, making it an exciting experience. Jes Aagaard, a nature guide with the Nature Agency, noted that the remaining trunk will remain standing as a habitat for insects and other wildlife that can benefit from the dead wood.

“It will become a biodiversity hotel, attracting species such as deer, bats, and more,” Aagaard explained. He emphasized that such decaying and dead wood is akin to fine dining for many decomposers, contributing to a healthy ecosystem.
