The registrar will no longer serve as the chairman of the Accident Insurance Board. Changes to the occupational accident insurance law will allow the Minister of Environment to appoint a chairman, who must be a legal professional.
A proposal for the legislative amendment has been sent out for consultation.
Following a request from the registrar, the government transferred the administration of the Accident Insurance Board from the Faroese Court to the Labour and Fire Inspection last autumn.
The registrar simultaneously called for a revision of the provisions in the occupational accident insurance law, seeking to relieve himself from the permanent chairmanship of the board. The government has now agreed to this request.
The registrar stated that the workload is excessively demanding, and the Accident Insurance Board does not fall within the primary functions of the Faroese Court.
The board handles over 350 cases annually and holds between 15 to 20 meetings each year.
The purpose of the proposed law amendment is to establish clear operational guidelines. Additionally, it aims to enable the Accident Insurance Board to reduce case processing times by granting the board’s secretary permission to make decisions on specific matters.
