A prosecutor is seeking a four-year prison sentence for attempted murder against a man born in 1989. The stabbing incident garnered significant national attention last July, as it occurred in front of the Ratina Shopping Center in downtown Tampere. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and required immediate hospitalization and surgery.

Shortly after the stabbing, police arrested a suspect near the crime scene. The accused has confessed to inflicting the stabbing wound. Alternatively, the prosecutor is also considering charges of aggravated assault. The suspect has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2006, with offenses including robbery, assault, aggravated drunk driving, serious assault, forgery, theft, fraud, drug-related crimes, firearm offenses, illegal threats, aggravated breach of home peace, concealment offenses, drunk driving, and petty theft.

According to the police, the violence was preceded by a dispute between the victim and the suspect, who were previously acquainted to some extent. The alleged crime was not connected to a city festival taking place in Tampere at the same time, and there was no danger posed to bystanders.
