Høgni Egilstoft Nielsen achieves final IM norm in draw against Michael Wiedenkeller at Chess Olympiad in Budapest

A recent chess match between Høgni Egilstoft Nielsen and Michael Wiedenkeller ended in a draw on the first board during the game between the Faroe Islands and Luxembourg in Budapest.

This result indicates that Høgni has achieved his third and final International Master (IM) norm, while the other requirement of a rating of 2400 has already been met long ago.

Høgni is the third player from the Faroe Islands to attain the IM title, following John Rødgaard and John Arni Nilssen. Helgi Dam Ziska previously won the IM title before progressing to become a grandmaster.

The overall match between the Faroe Islands and Luxembourg in the ninth round of the Chess Olympiad in Budapest is still ongoing.

The players on the first board were the first to finish their game, which lasted over half an hour.
