Polar bear sighted along Höfðaströnd in Westfjords of Iceland

The police have confirmed the sighting of a polar bear along Höfðaströnd in the Westfjords of Iceland. Officers reported encountering the bear around 4 PM, after disembarking from a vessel in the Jökulfjörðum area.

The owner of a nearby summer house initially alerted the authorities about the bear; however, there was a temporary communication issue that raised concerns. Fortunately, the owner is now safe, as confirmed by Helgi Jensson, the regional police chief.

Despite the reassuring update, Jensson emphasized that it is still too early to lift the current safety alert. The area is sparsely populated, and residents are urged to remain indoors if possible and take necessary precautions.

The presence of the polar bear in Iceland has heightened awareness of wildlife-related safety in the region, as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
